　　玛蒂（克里斯汀·贝尔 Kristen Bell 饰）和男友乔什的关系比来有些冷淡，她在屡次电话联系无效后造访乔什，但看到的却是男友自杀后的尸身……玛蒂堕入了自责，男友的幻象缭绕在她的眼前。未几，在玛蒂和朋友们利用收集聊天软件时，忽然传来了乔什的立即讯息，玛蒂思疑有人在利用男友的电脑，拜托朋友检察，这致使朋友在乔什家遭受了可骇的履历……另一方面玛蒂追索电脑着落，结识了采办电脑的青年德克斯特，后者在乔什电脑中发现了一系列诡异的视频，乔什在视频记录中自述其应用黑客技术开释出了可骇的物事，而他自己已没法控制。玛蒂在四周人的自杀、变态中愈发体味到一场借助收集传布的可骇阴云正敏捷覆盖全部城市……
