　　塔希米是小巴驾驶员，天天要去马尼拉城内拉客赢利，他对美国的任何事物都很感爱好，不管是电影、音乐、还是他的梦中情人 - 美国蜜斯，他天天必听的电台是“美国之声”，特别对老美的太空计划沉迷，特崇敬从东德潜逃的火箭科学家Werner Von Braun，还在村里组了一个WVB迷协会，招收当地一些小孩做会员，并经过卖冰棒为菲律宾蜜斯的选美活动筹款。
　　塔希米以为村子在逐步退化，跟不上时代的步伐，村民们落后的生活方式让他感应悲痛，甚诚意里看不起从小一路长大的朋友，由于他现在是竹屋工匠，虽然建造竹屋是菲律宾人的传统身手，但现在已经没有几多人愿意学了，而塔希米想要的是更宽阔明亮的楼房，想要过一种更现代化的“国际生活”。某天在路上他结识了一个美国贩子，贩子正需一私人司机，因而塔希米和他一路来到了巴黎。在巴黎的生活开初让他感应新颖不已，但随着他唯一的朋友，一个巴黎陌头的小商贩因遭到四周超级市场的行业逼迫和迫害而没法经营终极自杀，塔希米起头对这个金钱至上的本钱主义社会发生了疑问，为什么这个天下首先需要的是超市？为什么无数旧楼房被推倒后还要在上面建起更奢华的别墅？他试图用自己的方式匹敌，但很称心识到无用，并实时从梦中醒觉，重返了故乡。
