　　剧情首要发生在一列从美国西海岸开到芝加哥火车上，年轻出书商乔治克威与艺术品观赏家薜礼纳的秘书一见仍旧，两人正在温存之际，车窗外却抛下薜礼纳的尸身，乔治因此卷入凶徒的追杀当中。而潜伏在火车上的联邦密探史威晓得薜教授被杀的真相，亦遭势力庞大的罗杰杀戮。雪球越滚越大，最初失控的火车头居然撞进火车站当中。导演阿瑟·希勒拍出了松散俐落的氛围，飞腾一波未平一波又起，压轴的火车大灾难在二十年前更是使人看得目定口呆的出色特技排场。
