　　1957年，原纳粹军官Max（Dirk  Bogarde 饰）抛头露面，在维也纳一家酒店当半夜守门人。某日，他碰到著名批示家的妻子Lucia（Charlotte Rampling  饰），往事排山倒海而来。
　　
　　本来，Lucia是纳粹集合营的幸存者，昔时是Max的性奴，也是他的情人，Max对她一向记忆犹新。
　　
　　Max趁Lucia外出表演，和Lucia重逢，随行将她接到了自己的公寓，二人敏捷规复了昔日的关系。
　　
　　于此同时，Max所属纳粹余孽小团体也在寻觅Lucia，想撤除这个有力的证人，Lucia的丈夫也由于妻子失落而报警。Max穷途末路，只能囤积了大量食品在公寓里，和Lucia足不出户，靠性爱相互抚慰，忘记现实的窘境，期待终未到临的救赎大概扑灭。
