                                饰演斯大林的是美国演员阿德里安‧麦克洛格林（Adrian Mcloughlin），金球奖得主杰弗瑞·塔伯（Jeffrey Tambor）将饰演苏联带领人马林科夫，史蒂夫·布奇密（Steve Buscemi）将饰演赫鲁晓夫，前“邦女郎”奥尔加·柯瑞兰寇（Olga Kurylenko）将饰演苏联钢琴家玛丽亚·尤金娜（斯大林是在她钢琴唱片的伴奏下死去的），西蒙·拉塞尔·比尔（Simon Russell Beale）将饰演苏联二号人物贝利亚，鲁伯特·弗兰德（Rupert Friend）将饰演斯大林次子瓦西里。

                                斯大林是苏联历史上在位时候最长的最高带领人（1924——1953），在他的铁腕统治之下，苏联成为与美国相对抗的超级大国。关于他的死一向存在各类诡计论，官方给出的结论是中品格使的自然灭亡，但也有人深信他是被投迫害死的，而凶手就是克格勃（苏联情报机构）头子贝利亚。
                                    
                                斯大林死后，苏联一度堕入群龙无首的状态，高层的政治斗争异常剧烈。终极赫鲁晓夫等人扳倒了那时苏联现实上的二号人物——贝利亚。斯大林归天几个月后，贝利亚被作为西方特务处以死刑。
