　　　　在美国暴力犯罪情况日益严重的七十年月早期，本片石破天惊地公然提出“以暴易暴"的主张，让受害者自力救济对罪犯展开暴力还击，在首映昔时曾引发相当热烈的会商。                                                                    　　行动巨星查尔斯．布朗森饰演的一位温文贩子，当他的太太和女儿被大盗强奸，而爱妻更因此致死时，他的整小我生态度改变了。他起头自动反击，在暗夜的纽约陌头找寻那些能够的暴力犯加以制裁，警方对这名奥秘的城市豪杰感应困惑：难道冲击犯罪真的要这样子才有用吗？                                                                    　　导演迈克尔．温纳成功地塑造了一个以暴易暴的豪杰，他们忍无可忍以后的脱手普遍赢得观众的认同，老查的表演也相当出色。杰夫．戈德布拉姆初登银幕，饰演其中一位大盗。                                                                    　　影片对暴力采纳极端写实的手法，阔别暴力的文娱化偏向。该片在1982、1985、1987、1994年别离推出四部续集，但毫无新意，均遭恶评。
