◎简　　介　

　　在新奥尔良的一个夜晚，地痞布莱基由于打牌和不法移民科查卡发生冲突，因而伙同朋友枪杀了科查卡。尸身被发现后,公共卫生局的克林特·里德医生肯定死者得了肺部疫病。为了避免大范围疫病的爆发，同时又不引发市民的发急，必须在四十八小时内奥秘查找出一切与死者有过打仗的人，克林特医生以及差人局长沃伦上校配合停止了紧急的观察。而与此同时，布莱基思疑朋友变节自己，强盗内部也出现了纠葛……
