　　已年届中年的玛丽·琼斯（阿纳茜塔茜亚·希尔 Anastasia Hille 饰）是一位电影制片人，但在她鲜明的表面下却有着不为人知的曩昔。她最早诞生在俄国，尚在襁褓时便被美国一户人家收养。随着一封遗言的到来，玛丽终究出发回到未知而奥秘、陌生又熟悉的故乡。遗言中她俄国怙恃业已双亡，作为唯一的正当继续人，玛丽行将具有怙恃的产业——位于俄国某偏僻山村的卡迪诺夫斯基农场。可是该农场被当地人视为不祥的地点，没人愿意为玛丽带路。几经周折，她终极到达目标地。在此她不但早于希奇的幻象，更遭受了自称是她双胞胎兄弟的尼古拉（凯勒·罗登 Karel Roden 饰）。它们都被同一封遗书引领至此。
