◎简　　介
　　海湾战争中，坦克军队军官沙林（丹泽尔?华盛顿 Denzel Washington 饰）一次判定失误命令击毁了己军的坦克，令到好友鲍德温意外灭亡了。虽然军事法庭判他不需承当义务，但是他还是昼夜受着良知的煎熬，一向想找鲍德温的怙恃说明此事，却也一向没有勇气。                                    
                                下属为了给沙林授勋，派他观察战争中一路机械师勇救兵士牺牲的事务。沙林观察中发现勇救兵士而勇敢牺牲的居然是卡伦（梅格?瑞安 Meg Ryan 饰）居然是个女人！但现场的几名流兵的口供自相冲突、缝隙百出。在沙林对其中一位流兵墨菲逼问后，墨菲居然自杀了。随着墨菲的自杀，事务的真相渐渐浮出水面……
