11岁时，艾伦（格兰特·古斯汀 Grant Gustin 饰）的母亲古怪灭亡，而他的父亲则被当做了凶手。以后，警探乔（杰西·马丁 Jesse L. Martin 饰）收留了孤苦孤立的艾伦，在乔的耳闻目击之下，成年后的艾伦成为了一位CSI鉴证分析员，在此进程中，他一向没有放弃过对于母亲真正死因的观察。
艾伦非常迷恋科学家哈里森（汤姆·加瓦那 Tom Cavanagh 饰）所研讨的粒子加速器，但是，一场意外让加速器发生了爆炸，艾伦被击中堕入了昏迷。九个月后，终究苏醒的艾伦惊奇的发现自己体内发生了奇异的变化，是以而获得了特别才能。随着时候的推移，艾伦起头大白，这个天下上，还有很多和自己一样具有超才能的人存在，而庇护市民的平安成为了他新的义务和使命。
