　　　　伯恩义在位于德国汉堡的一间剧院当演员，不外他一向都只能演一些龙套脚色。一天剧院的司理压服他参演《毒气员》，故事报告了两个纳粹党员收集“不需要的人”并将他们间接在路上杀死。虽然可以出演配角，刚起头的排演就让伯恩义感应像是噩梦。导演弗兰克只要执导电影的经历，天分极高却也非常蛮横，比如他执意让出演受害者和纳粹毒气员的演员分隔排演。伯恩义的同伴马西斯是个洁身自好的人，一心只想着高升。而伯恩义也完全不喜好这出戏剧。在剧院外，伯恩义的生活也欠好过：他的前任几近反面他联系，法警追着他要钱，而他和自己的小儿子相处时候也少之又少。他的唯一安慰是他和一个奥秘的年轻女人的关系。本片是一部针对德国艺术和文化现状的政治嘲讽剧，经过大量的黑色诙谐，展现了一小我探访心里天下的进程。
