　　一代武术宗师、精武门开创人霍元甲忽然去世，霍徒弟生前最爱好的五徒弟陈真（李小龙 饰）仓促赶回奔丧，在徒弟的棺椁前，陈真欣喜若狂，临时停止了和小师妹（苗可秀 饰）结婚的计划，而且不相信徒弟死于胃病和伤风的结论。日本虹口道场馆主铃木宽在霍徒弟头七之日，派人送上写有“东亚病夫 ”的牌匾，而且出言大举欺侮精武门，被激愤的陈真随后赶到虹口道场，大北众日本武人，并踢碎了租界公园门口“华人与狗不得入内”的招牌。虹口道场顿时派人至精武馆报复，陈真为避免扳连师门只得暂离精武门。机遇偶合，陈真发现了日本人害死徒弟的证据，他怒不成遏，连毙数名凶手，成为日本人的眼中钉，为了保全精武门，陈真挑选自力承当，他在租界本国势力的枪口前纵身跃起……
