　　意大利裔画家莫迪里亚尼（安迪·加西亚 Andy Garcia 饰）在长久的平生中都在与艺术大师巴勃罗·毕加索抗争。生前唯逐一幅击败毕加索的作品，其中描画了他深爱的女人。不拘小节的莫迪里亚尼混迹在巴黎蒙马特高地画家圈子里，他过着充溢着酒精、大麻与女人的汗漫生活。在一次写生 课上，他遇上了生射中的挚爱珍妮（艾尔莎·泽贝斯坦 Elsa Zylberstein 饰），他约请她做自己的模特，为珍妮创作了大量肖像作品。可是在一幅预备加入画展与毕加索合作的作品中，他留下了珍妮的眼睛没有画。他对珍妮诠释说：当我领会你的心灵深处时，我将画你的眼睛。他从珍妮身上获得源源不竭的灵感，让他延续兴旺的创作豪情。可是，他的艺术不能像毕加索那样被公共所认同，不良的生活习惯让他染上难以康复的结核病。就在他支付与珍妮的婚姻挂号证时，遭受了强盗，惨死在陌头。
　　画展开幕了，一切观众都被画中女人的忧伤眼神所感动，甚至感动了毕加索，掌声久久响起。
