　　小人物兰斯·巴顿（克里斯·罗克 Chris Rock 饰）一心成为一位专业笑剧演员，能在专业演员的殿堂阿波罗戏院成名更是他无尚的胡想。可是他演技了了，时运不济，久久得不到出头的机遇。某晚夜归，兰斯遭受一场严重车祸，成果与世长辞。他的灵魂来到天堂，却发现天堂工作职员搞错了名字。在天堂负责人金师长（查兹·帕明特瑞 Chazz Palminteri 饰）的帮助下，兰斯获准重返人世，不外由于他的身材已经损坏，是以必须借助他人的身材还魂。
