　　1995年冬季的底特律，每逢周末乐手们城市聚在一家名为The Shelter的Hip-Hop俱乐部停止一对一的为时一分钟的表演角逐，吉米?史姑娘（艾米纳姆）是众多黑人乐手中另类的白，虽然他很有气力，却在每次下台表演时城市卡壳，只获得一片喝倒彩的嘲笑声。
　　除了要勇敢面临被起哄的人群轰下台的为难，吉米?史姑娘还要应赋予母亲（金?贝辛格）及同母异父的妹妹一路生活在狭窄狭隘的拖车里的尴尬。而母亲的男友、黑人与白人的平行线关系、他的工作和豪情等等，也皆是他的压力。他试图打破家庭与团体的约束，用音乐表达出对生活的愤慨和不满，但是他首先要处理的，是克服胆小的自己。
